Automated Large Letter Tariff The Automated large letter tariff is a new service from the Royal Mail effective from 2nd April that is especially designed for PPI and franked mail customers. It offers these customers the opportunity to increase their cost savings with no ‘up-front’ accreditation. What items are eligible for the new tariff? • Items sized from C5 to a maximum of C4 • Correctly addressed • Unsorted • Machine-ready mail bearing an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) font What criteria must be met to receive the discounts? • Minimum 250 items per mailing, per class, per site, per day • Electronic posting docket • PPI or franked mail only • Mail to be faced, trayed, labeled and segregated by class • Address quality – addresses must be visible, legible and left-justified with minimum 95% full / accurate address and postcode of all items mailed • Printing - use of OCR fonts including, but not limited to, Arial, Monaco, Courier • Mail specification – o Length – max 324mm / min 229mm o Width – max 229mm / min 162mm o Thickness – max 10mm / min 1mm o Weight – max 750g / min 50g o Maximum lateral movement in the item should not exceed 30mm o Item must be sealed on all sides o No polywrap items By meeting Royal Mail’s criteria you can receive additional discounts of between 3p and 8p depending on the weight band off the meter / account large letter tariff.
