Direct Connect is the operating system on most Pitney Bowes high volume inserting systems that delivers file based processing. This is an alternative to controlling documents only by marks on the documents, and allows a significant reduction in the size of code on the printed document. Instead the data controlling each mailpiece – and the entire mail run – resides in the Mail Run Data File (MRDF).
Direct Connect provides a link between mainframe or client server-based applications and the production floor. This means that every single document can be tracked right the way through the system – from raw data through to finished mail piece. This gives far more control over the processing of each mailpiece – the power to turn routine transactional mail into highly effective 1:1 marketing opportunities.
Many Direct Connect features not only maximise integrity, but also productivity. For example: automatic piece and job level reconciliation minimises manual intervention and maximises system run times. Direct Connect also enables many value add applications, such as high integrity in-line addressing and reconciliation.
