Address Cleansing
One of the key business drivers that impact our customers is the high rates of returned mail. There are costs associated with the original creation and posting of the mailpiece along with the more significant costs of handling the returned mail and subsequent re-creation and postage, often at standard tariff.
Having a clear strategy to identify, out-sort and manage the address cleansing process before the mailpiece arrives into the postal stream is critical to ensure total operational efficiency. This can be easily achieved using postal databases that are able to identify the correct addressing prior to document creation.
Often more complex is the need to modify or identify the incorrect address within a fully composed printstream, for this we would use our Printstream Manipulation tools (e.g. StreamWeaver) to interact with the postal databases so that these corrections or out-sorting events can happen on the fly.
Of equal importance are the delivery of mailpieces to International addresses – here the need for address cleansing is often more acute. We have an International database (Code1) that can dramatically reduce the number of International addresses being returned and given that the postage for these is often far greater than for mail destined within a country we can realise a far greater saving in many cases.
We see address cleansing and as key component in driving towards the goal for total operational efficiency and effectiveness.
